Emphasizing the power of taste over the other four senses, Dining in the Dark is a new trend currently taking residence at RICE, within the San Diego W Hotel. Allowing patrons to enjoy cuisine in a pitch-black dining room, this unique experience ensures that guests are never distracted by décor, music or the other usual elements of hospitality environments…

Here’s a quick excerpt:

Whether you’re dining in the restaurant, watching the DJ spin in the nightclub, enjoying the private Penthouse room on the mezzanine level (complete with its own bar and bartender), or escaping the hustle and bustle of the city by ascending to the rooftop bar with a refreshing cocktail in hand, every night is always a party at Stingaree…

For all you hamburger lovers:

These are my favorite burger joints in San Diego (not in any particular order). Eat a hamburger from one of these places and you will never want another fast food or frozen restaurant burger again.

  1. In-N-Out (located throughout the city). This place is simple, only selling burgers, fries, and shakes. They also keep it simple by taking cash only. This is the king of fast food burger joints. If you visit San Diego on your next vacation this is a must.
  2. Rocky’s Crown Pub (Pacific Beach, San Diego) - Do not get picky with your order here at this neighborhood bar. Menu items are kept simple, you order a hamburger or cheeseburger with or without fries. They cook basic burgers, no fancy ingredients. Buy a cold beer here to wash it down.
  3. Hodads (Ocean Beach San Diego) - If you have ever been on Newport in OB than you have seen Hodads. It is a small place wallpapered with license plates. If you love bacon this is the best bacon burger in town. Instead of adding a few slices, they stew the bacon, cook it into a patty, and add it to your burger.
  4. Waterfront Bar & Grill (downtown San Diego) - This a small bar located in Little Italy in downtown San Diego. This place makes a great burger and has a really laid back atmosphere.
  5. Classics Malt Shop - (Midway Drive San Diego) Like burger joints with a 50’s diner feel? This is the place to be. They offer burgers, malts, and more. Come every Friday night as the parking lot turns into a mini classic car show.
  6. Phils BBQ (Sports Arena San Diego) - Phils makes their own ground beef and cooks over an open flame. I personally never eat the burger there because their ribs are top notch. If you do not want BBQ sauce on it, let them know because it comes with it.

When friends and family are visiting San Diego and you just don’t feel like dragging them to the same old restaurant for the same old combination plates, consider stopping by the Zocalo Grill in Old Town for an out-of-the-ordinary South of the Border experience…

It’s time to enlighten the rest of San Diego to what many locals already know, Richard Walker’s Pancake House is one of the best breakfast and brunch spots in the city. Located in the Marina District just outside the Gaslamp Quarter in downtown San Diego, Richard Walker’s offers both classic and gourmet dishes to start your day…

Tucked away in a secluded section of Kearny Mesa, the 94th Aerosquadron is a charming San Diego restaurant that offers diners a unique steakhouse experience. The restaurant itself a replica of a World War I French farmhouse and is adorned with military and aviation memorabilia and relics as well as antique farm implements…
