I completely spaced and forgot to post my pictures from the House of Blues from last week. The show was early in the night and the bands were given free tickets to hand out, which was cool, but it would’ve been nicer if they had those tickets a few days early instead of getting a stack at their soundcheck. We all know I have my issues with HoB but I’m over it…corporate clubs are always gonna be hard for me to love, but I have friends there and things usually end up working out for me so I just have to deal.
Before the show, I wandered with Team Abraham over to Stout where they did a couple quick shots before the show. There weren’t a ton of people at the House of Blues but that also meant people weren’t talking through the whole show, so I […]

I had been looking forward to The National playing again for some time, and though I was disappointed it wasn’t going to be at The Casbah as it was when they played on my bithday last year, I thought the House of Blues might serve them well. Oh, Rosey, someday you’ll stop being so naive.
I arrived at the House of Blues at 6:20 pm. I was meeting a couple friends of mine for happy hour, and I thought if there was an issue with my ticket and photo pass, that would allow for time to fix the problem before the show. Fortunately everything was there, including an extra ticket. Beautiful. I looked for my friends who had yet to arrive and sat at the bar, ordered a vodka tonic and put in my order for their tasty catfish nuggets. I’ve always loved the […]

After returning from the Inland Empire and taking a nap, Daniel picked my up at my house on Sunday night to go with me to see The Kooks and The Morning Benders. He had forgotten his wallet, so we had to drive back to his house down south, but when we arrived at the House of Blues by 7:30, we thought we had made good time. He dropped me off to get the tickets while he parked, but by the time I got to the window, The Morning Benders started their set. They were supposed to start at 8, but pushed it up to 7:45. Then I hit snag number two…some publicists always give a plus one when they reach out to offer tickets. Apparently I hadn’t read my e-mail and there was only one ticket and a photo pass waiting for me. Mierda. I called Dan and told him […]

Here’s a summary….
I decided that I’d post some more of the photos from Ghostland Observatory, because even though they were challenging to capture from a digital camera without shutter control, it was a whole lotta fun and, as I mentioned, they totally blew me away, as characters onstage and as a couple of really great guys offstage.
Here’s my BFF Kristian with the guys.

I’m sure everyone who is seriously passionate about something has been afforded some cool experiences in their time. Like, as a kid I was a huge fan of Punky Brewster and got to meet Soleil Moon Frye at a “Say No To Drugs” march when I was in elementary school. I really thought I was so cool. A few years ago, when I was a bit more politically involved, I got to meet Arianna Huffington and she told me I was smart. I had a girl-crush ever since.
As time has gone on, I’ve had some cool shit happen where I have to sometimes pinch myself. Like, sometimes things just happen…they just work out with all the right pieces falling into place, and there you are totally lost in one huge awesome moment.
Thursday night, for me, was one such night. My bff has been in town a lot lately […]

I’m gonna be at a wedding in Yucaipa this weekend, but fortunately I’ll be back in town by Sunday to catch The Kooks & The Morning Benders at the House of Blues. The Kooks absolutely killed at FM 94/9’s Holiday Hootenanny, and The Morning Benders were awesome when they played the Casbah and Beauty Bar.
The Morning Benders are touring in support of their release Talking Through Tin Cans and The Kooks latest Konk was #1 in the UK in the first week of its release. The show is all ages so it will be early and tickets are still available. Do not miss this high energy show of pop bliss.
Check out a video for “Boarded Doors” by The Morning Benders on Stereogum.

Look, San Diego. I know we’re kinda sleepy here in this town, a little behind the curve when it comes to new music. I’m guilty of this. I hear a band’s name in the blogosphere and then they don’t even bother stopping here on their tours for a couple years, so why should I bother checking out their music? It’s just the way we are. Not everyone, of course, but I know if I didn’t get regular shipments of CDs in my mailbox, I’d spend everyday listening to August and Everything After.
Anyway, my BFF Kristian has been swearing by this band, Ghostland Observatory, for a couple years, and since I missed them last time they passed through, I’ve been threatened that I’m not allowed to miss them again. He was blown away at SXSW, Coachella, and recently at The Fonda in LA. […]

The Morning Benders have played their show of San Diego shows and not only are they immensely talented, but they’re all sweethearts, too. I was happy to see their video on the landing page on YouTube today and thought I should repost for you.
The Morning Benders will be back in San Diego on May 18 when they open for The Kooks at the House of Blues.

Rosemary Blogged about a good topic today on www.sddialedin.com
Here’s a snippet:
Fortunately I got my act together on Sunday afternoon and checked the House of Blues site. I was on the list for Manchester Orchestra who were playing with Say Anything, Eli “Paperboy” Read and The True Loves and Weatherbox. It was 6:45 and the site said the doors were at 6, show at 7. Damn those all ages shows. I hopped in my car and was downtown by 7-ish, found some yellow zone parking, and made my way to HoB. The line at will call was longer than I’d ever seen- I think there was some promo because everyone seemed to be on Say Anything’s guest list. I finally got my tickets, filled out my press form, and made my way into the venue.
I was a little disappointed, I have to say. I realize the rules have to be different when the show is 90% tweens, but this time they […]

Fans of Damien Rice and Conor Oberst should have their ears perked for David Ford, who will be performing at the House of Blues 5th Avenue sidestage this Wednesday night. The CD is getting lots of blog love and I can atest that it stands far and above your traditional singer-songwriter. This is one of those musicians that you’ll brag about seeing in a small venue before he hits some larger tours this summer. After this brief west coast tour, he’s playing a handful of sold out east coast shows with Sara Bareilles before joining local boys Augustana on some of their dates. If you’re a fan of KPRi or Big Sonic Chill on 94/9, this is an artist you’ll want to see.
Listen to some of his tracks on his MySpace Page.
I’m looking for three winners who want the CD and entry into the show. Contest […]
