David Rolland Did a great write-up today on lastblogonearth.com
Read this summary:
The League of Conservation Voters San Diego just announced its endorsement of three candidates for San Diego City Council. Winning the nods were Sherri Lightner in District 1, Todd Gloria in District 3 and Marti Emerald in District 7—all Democrats. No surprise there in Districts 1 and 7. But it’s got to be somewhat of a blow to District 3 candidate Stephen Whitburn, who’s backed by environmentalist City Councilmember Donna Frye. Now Gloria can claim some credentials in the environmental community and diffuse charges that he’s in the pocket of the developers who are helping finance his campaign. No endorsement was announced in the District 5 race, which pits Republican Carl DeMaio against Democrat George George.

For anyone who plays the street-sweeping parking tango (such as AnnaMaria Stephens described in her article in this week’s CityBeat), that small annoyance is about to get bigger. Today, Mayor Jerry Sanders announced that starting in April, the city’s going to be stepping up its street sweeping schedule in an effort to keep pollutants from […]

The first paragraph is here:
At last night’s League of Conservation Voters forum on environmental issues, the five of the six candidates vying for Toni Atkins City Council seat tried to prove they were the greenest of them all (James Hartline decided not to come because CityBeat editor David Rolland was the moderator. The best moment may have been when […]

The first paragraph is here:
For those of you who want to get a head start on the June 3 City Council elections, live in the district currently represented by Toni Atkins and are particularly interested in environmental issues, on Monday evening, Feb. 11, I’ll be moderating a candidates forum in City Heights sponsored by the League of Conservation Voters.
Candidates Todd Gloria, John Hartley and Stephen Whitburn will participate, but if you’re interested only in beholding the antics of ex-gay Christian crusader candidate James Hartline, you’re outta luck. Hartline has refused to take part because of me. Here’s what he told one of the organizers in an e-mail:
Mr. Rolland, has in the past, sent some extremely disrespectful, bigoted and profane emails to me personally. As such, I have absolutely no intention of particpating [sic] in any event where he is in charge. It is unfortunate, because I have much in common, on evironmental […]

The first bit is quoted here:
I just called City Attorney Mike Aguirre to get his thoughts on the California Supreme Court ruling yesterday on the ongoing seals v. citizens saga at the Children’s Pool beach in La Jolla, and he gave me a few more tidbits to chew on.
Most interesting were his comments about his office’s crusade to clean up the city’s smoke shops. He said it’s aimed at paraphernalia for smoking meth and crack, not marijuana.
