Thursday night. Gettin off work off work a little early (11:30 p.m.) hmm… looks like I can catch Crystal Castles show afterall. Arrive at Casbah. Stroll into back bar. Sweet! Ben bartending and Rosie at bar. Greetings. Beverages. Smoking patio. They’re playing Crimewave and killing it! Lights, cameras flashing… action on dance floor.Rosie: “shit, Tim needs me to sell merch tomorrow but I’m outa town” (thinkin I’m broker than ever before)” i’ll do it…”Rosie text confirms with Tim. It’s set. Done. Cool! I’ll let Rosie give her rundown of this show as she mentioned she would, but let me just say that some of the funnest shows I’ve been to at Casbah have been the electro shows. Everybody in the house dancing out of control AND singing along…last show I saw like this was when […]

The first bit is quoted here:
By this point at Indie Jam, it was around 2:30. The Ting-Tings were finishing up their set, I ran into Tim and asked if he could get me an extra credential, so I followed him up the steps and he got me a Casbah stage pass from Porter. It wasn’t really necessary, but it gave me leverage to befriend the security up top and I eventually talked to his supervisor who gave us clearance to use the photo barrier for the local stage. Most large shows that I’ve been to usually have an entrance for photos and one for backstage areas. For some reason, the entrance to get to the photo section of both stages was the same as the backstage area and this caused some confusion, but at least we worked it out up top.
The Blackout Party sounded great and looked perfect, too. Tim was a total rockstar […]

Read this excerpt:
I really wanted to get to Indy Jam in time to catch Nortec Collective and Santogold, but Kristian drove down from LA and there was still some discussion as to wheter we were gonna take the magic bus or drive, but taking one car made the most sense for us. Velvet has been living in Montana, so she had a sweet convertible and the ride to Chula Vista was sweet, just chilling into the back with my hair whipping my face. We arrived and had no problem getting right into the venue.
Santogold was finishing up on the mainstage, so we made our way to the upstairs beer garden while The Wrong Trousers hit the local stage. I think they really impressed the crowd that was trickling in, and how could they not with their innocent stage banter, particularly with the story about “Calvin”?
We listened from […]

The first paragraph is here:
I got to the Casbah right around 8 and met The Ting Tings and their manager. I know for the fans, it might’ve been better if they had merch but all they were selling were CDs and vinyl. We started the night with 26 cds and 6 signed vinyl, but at the end of the night I had to restock on the vinyl and sold about 10 more. I was enjoying the patio and hung out with two of the promotions guys from FM 94/9 who were really sweet. They also helped and covered the merch so I could get some pics of the show. The opener was really mellow considering how high energy The Ting Tings were, so no pics of her. But here’s the band and some other random photos. The band does this thing where they set up the covers […]

The first bit is quoted here:
Friday night had a lot of good stuff going on, but since I finally got the digital advance from Swim Party and missed The Donkeys the last few times they’ve played, it was a no-brainer to spend Friday night at the Casbah, especially because in addition to those bands, it was Calico Horse’s CD. Yes, Emily, it’s about time!! We’ve been waiting for this one forever.
I didn’t take Swim Party photos but instead really just took in the music which sounded perfect. I’m so excited for everyone in SD to get their hands on the new album at the end of the month when it’s released.
The Donkeys sounded really great too. They still won’t let me talk about their record deal and I haven’t heard anything new since December. I just occurred to me I should’ve bought the music they […]

Read this summary….
Friday night I had to make my way to The Casbah early since I was going to be selling the swag for Swervedriver and Film School. Film School was readying their sound check while Adam, Steve and I rolled shirts. Doors opened shortly after we finished counting out merch and I never stopped being busy. People bought a lot of stuff. We had shirts, posters, buttons, Adam’s solo CD, and a tour only 7″ vinyl that people bought in loads. It was a little chaotic, but it was cool to see how excited Swervedriver fans were to see them. A couple fans showed up in their 10 or 15 year old Swervedriver t-shirts. The fans were rabid.
Sometimes when I sell stuff I can break and get into the venue for some pictures, but since people were trickling to the stand all night, […]

Here’s a snippet:
I had been looking forward to The National playing again for some time, and though I was disappointed it wasn’t going to be at The Casbah as it was when they played on my bithday last year, I thought the House of Blues might serve them well. Oh, Rosey, someday you’ll stop being so naive.
I arrived at the House of Blues at 6:20 pm. I was meeting a couple friends of mine for happy hour, and I thought if there was an issue with my ticket and photo pass, that would allow for time to fix the problem before the show. Fortunately everything was there, including an extra ticket. Beautiful. I looked for my friends who had yet to arrive and sat at the bar, ordered a vodka tonic and put in my order for their tasty catfish nuggets. I’ve always loved the […]

The first few lines are here:
After a very, very lethargic Monday, I headed down to the Casbah for Anti-Monday League.
Local boys Emery Byrd kicked off the night and sounded …um, is it okay to say ‘delicious’ when describing music? It had been too long since I’d seen them play and I was happy to have arrived in time to catch their whole set.
Actually, I really didn’t take many pics the whole night because the lighting just wasn’t in my favor. Someone put deep blue gels over the two center lights that used to be yellow and they were kept low for most of the night.
LA’s Mike Bloom was on after Emery Byrd and was having massive issues with the sound. The monitors were kicking in and out randomly. That was only slightly annoying to the crowd but really annoying to Mike. Eventually Jake fixed it, but I was getting impatient already because the set […]

Last week was a rare week for me, as I actually didn’t go to shows for three nights in a row. I thought I was going to see Destroyer on Tuesday, but after listening to some of the tracks in my iPod, I thought I was going to have an anxiety attack. Something about Bejar’s voice didn’t resonate with me, so I skipped it and caught up on the site a bit instead. On Wednesday I worked on my listings while hanging out with a couple friends at The Ken Club. The DJ there on Wednesdays is awesome so I was really enjoying myself. Then Thursday came around and the I had a shit day and I ended up working late and by the time I got home, didn’t find the motivation to head to House of Blues for Dresden Dolls, especially since I’d already missed May*Star and they were […]

Rosemary Made a great post today on www.sddialedin.com
The first paragraph is here:
I really thought this weekend I’d spend a lot more time on the computer to catch up with things but I spent most of Memorial Day weekend with my family. You try to write when you’re adorable niece and god-sister around. Just try. So I will try and get to some of last weeks photos.
My week started off at The Casbah on Monday for Anti-Monday League. I had no idea the show would be in such demand. It supposedly had been sold out for a couple weeks. I went mostly because I’m just into Anti-Monday League shows and know they’re always a good time. Unfortunately, on this night, either 70% of the audience came down from LA or they were just suddenly acting like Angelinos. People were rude and pushy, so I kept my distance, spending most of the night on the patio.
I did arrive in time to catch one […]
