Wag if You Love Woodward!

admin admin Blogged something interesting today on www.discoversd.com
The first paragraph is here:

Rancho Santa Fe is home to one of San Diego’s most altruistic organizations: the Helen Woodward Animal Center. Located on twelve rolling acres, the center benefits the community by providing educational and therapeutic programs for people, and humane care and adoption for animals. The facility includes adoption kennels, stables and an arena for the Therapeutic Riding program, a pet boarding facility, small-animal and equine hospitals, classrooms, and more.

Here’s a summary….

The San Diego Cinema Society is for those who love motion pictures—not simple movies, mind you. Its members enjoy the opportunity to discover carefully selected films even before they’re released to the general public, from both independent and major studios, along with beloved classics unearthed from the vault. Evenings include a formal introduction, screening of a film, followed by discussion. Eminent speakers in the industry are common guests.

Any day of the week, you can find a Farmer’s Market at one of San Diego’s myriad communities. However, the Ocean Beach Farmer’s Market is constantly ranked at the top of the heap. Its sunny outdoor location, friendly vendors, and vast variety of organic produce and unique merchandise for sale keep locals and visitors coming back weekly.

Look outside. It’s a beautiful day for a picnic, isn’t it? Raid the fridge, fix some sandwiches, grab a blanket, and head out to Cabrillo National Monument in Point Loma, home of the most dramatic bay and harbor view in all of San Diego. Established in 1913, the monument commemorates Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo’s voyage of discovery. The Pacific Ocean, the Cuyamaca mountains, and the supine hump of Mexico can all be seen from the scenic national park. What a way to work up an appetite!

To further the reduction of alcohol-related disturbances in the Pacific Beach area, Discover Pacific Beach is hosting a completely alcohol-free “Pacific Beachfest” on October 14th, 2006. The emphasis is on family-friendly, and the festival’s shorefront events attractions like a kite flying competition, an arts & crafts village, a community stage, a sidewalk sale, a sandcastle building display, and a separate “Kidfest” are certain to please every member of your household, four-leggers included.

There are two sides to every story. Like whether or not alcohol should be banned on Pacific and Mission Beaches — there are those who believe it is harmless, who enjoy nothing more than an ice cold Corona alongside a beachfront game of horseshoes. Then there are those who recognize that excessive alcohol has caused countless problems in the area, disturbing residents and visitors both.

Old Town Saturday Market

admin admin Did a great write-up today on www.discoversd.com
The first paragraph….

Every day of the week, Old Town is San Diego’s favorite marketplace for authentic Mexican handicrafts, artwork, jewelry, and other exquisite items. But when the community hosts its weekly Saturday Market on Harney Street, a full-blown explosion of color and fun, your shopping experience will feel more like a fiesta!

Old Town’s Harney Sushi, naturally located on Harney Street, is not for the claustrophobic. Every available space in its small interior is literally crammed with chairs, tiny tables, and stools, all of which are usually seated with boisterous sake-bombers. The restaurant’s bright red and black lighting, vocal crowd and clublike atmosphere make it seem even smaller.

Whether you’re a true art lover or just a looker, you’ll have a great time at North Park’s monthly gallery walking tour, Ray at Night. Located along Ray Street, the event is the largest of its sort in San Diego, drawing over 1,500 people on the second Saturday of each month.

Whether you’re familiar with the illustrious Italian Opera, La Boheme, or just the famed American semi-adaptation, Rent, you’ll probably sense the irony clinging to the nomenclature of the new North Park luxury condominium development, La Boheme. But if you’re not living the true bohemian life, there’s no reason not to take a look at the mixed-use project.
